The much-anticipated interview between Vince McMahon and Pat McAfee took place on Thursday afternoon, and it was every bit as entertaining as a WWE fan could have hoped. It also wasn’t just done to set up a storyline for WrestleMania. There was some news that broke on the show.
Not long into the interview, McAfee told the audience Vince had an announcement and McMahon said reiterated that The Undertaker would be going into the WWE Hall of Fame. Vince then broke the news that he personally would be inducting The Deadman. Calling it something he was honored and privileged to do, Vince also said it was going to be extremely difficult because of how much he cares for Mark Calaway the man. He knows and has had a relationship with Calaway for 30-plus years.
Vince said he could talk about The Undertaker character all day and not get emotional. But, when it comes to talking about the wonderful human being that is Mark Calaway, it’s going to be hard not to get emotional.
“I love the guy,” he said. Saying they’ve known each other for so many years they’ve been through all sorts of situations. “When you live on the road, you have to have a family on the road and you have to have people you can count on, rely on, are loyal and trustworthy, and not have to look over your shoulder, and he’s that kind of guy. He’s an extraordinary human being, as well as one of the all-time greats.”
This Is Special
Vince McMahon doesn’t do this kind of thing often. In fact, he’s rarely seen publicly when it comes to the Hall of Fame ceremony because he doesn’t want to be thanked or appreciated in any way. That he’s going to be inducting The Undertaker is a massive thing that is reserved only for those who left an unforgettable mark on the industry and WWE and really can’t be appreciated in the same way Vince inducting you can show appreciation.
