Anthony Joshua is the only option out there for Deontay Wilder, former WBC heavyweight world champion Bermane Stiverne believes
Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder may have both lost their most recent fights, but they could be the perfect opponents for each other.
That’s according to former WBC heavyweight world champion, Bermane Stiverne, who believes AJ is the only fight left for Wilder following his back-to-back losses at the hands of Tyson Fury.
Stiverne is the only man other than Fury to have taken Wilder the distance, when he ultimately lost his WBC heavyweight crown with a unanimous decision in their 2015 fight.
In the rematch, however, Stiverne felt Wilder’s power as he was knocked down three times on his way to a first round stoppage defeat, and now he believes the Bronze Bomber should take on Britain’s Joshua.
“I think the only fight that’s left for him to do money wise would be Joshua,” Stiverne told Planet Sport.
“Other than that, I don’t think there’s any other fight that would be relevant for him.
“Also that depends on how Joshua comes back, if he comes back and beats Usyk then it’s worth it, if not then it’s not worth it.
“I take that back, it would be worth it cause both men are coming from a loss so it would be worth it to watch it.
“Other than that I don’t see anyone. In my book, Wilder doesn’t have anything to prove to anybody.
“Ever since he got the title from me, he did a great job holding onto the belt for five or six years and today is Tyson Fury’s turn.”
Wilder has barely been heard from since losing his trilogy bout with Fury last year, having not confirmed if he will retire or whether we will see him back in the ring.
As for Joshua, he was masterfully out-boxed by Oleksandr Usyk last September, as he lost his unified heavyweight world titles, but he will get a chance at redemption, with the pair set to meet in a rematch in July.
