Mike Tyson reveals he’s a Daenerys Targaryen stan
Former heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson gives his opinion of Daenerys Targaryen. Obviously, he’s a fan.
It’s always fun to see evidence of just how widely watched Game of Thrones was; this show resonated with just about everybody, including former heavyweight champion of the world Mike Tyson.
Tyson recently joined talk show host Bill Maher on the Club Random podcast. I don’t know exactly how the topic of Roman history came up, but it did, and Maher — who’s also a Game of Thrones fan, obviously — compared the death of the dictator Julius Caesar to the death of Daenerys Targaryen, who was killed by Jon Snow in the series finale. Watch the time-stamped clip below:
“The blonde girl…is benevolent, sort of, and then she becomes a dictator, and they’ve gotta kill her,” Maher summarizes, more or less accurately. “She’s a bad chick, though,” Tyson replies, “with her dragons, she was a bad chick…She had to go.”
It’s just fun seeing these celebrities break down the ending of the show. It’s also kind of refreshing to see them take the ending at face value rather than question whether it was consistent or fair, as a lot of the fans do, and I include myself among that group. They both seemed to just enjoy it, and they’re adorably on the same page. “She had to go, because she turned…” Maher starts. “Too powerful,” Tyson finishes. See, they finish each others…sandwiches.
“She let the dragons go to her head,” Maher said. “Yeah…power is intoxicating,” Tyson replied. He would know. “She was just a humble girl…she conquered everything, she got dragons.”
Daenerys Targaryen is dead and gone, but we’ll see her ancestors duke it out with other when House of the Dragon premieres on HBO and HBO Max on August 21. Winter, fire and blood: they’re all coming…back.
