Mike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather Jr: Why do boxing legends hate each other?
Both fighters made history in their respective eras as professionals
To talk about Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather Jr. is to talk about two historical figures in the boxing world. In addition to characters that have been controversial in and out of the ring.
The quality of both fighters is not questionable, both left a great legacy in this world and to this day what they did is still being talked about.
Despite the fact that both have a name in the boxing world, the relationship between the two is not good and the rivalry went beyond the ring.
Why do the fighters hate each other?
On several occasions both boxers publish things about each other, discrediting some fact or criticizing whatever they are doing.
Recently, Tyson did not want to give his opinion in a controversial way when asked about the amount of belts and titles Mayweather has within boxing.
“In boxing there are never enough belts because every fight is fought like it’s a championship fight, it’s more money for the fighter. There are not enough belts. To be clear, there is one champion and there are 10 other guys, how long will it take for that champion to fight those 10?” he stated in an interview for Essentially Sports.
Exchange of accusations between Tyson and Mayweather
In addition to the above, another reason why the relationship is not good was because of a situation that occurred in Las Vegas.
Mayweather allegedly had the police arrive at Tyson’s mansion and raid it, which did not sit well with the veteran fighter.
This was allegedly in response to Tyson allegedly accusing Mayweather of sexually abusing and assaulting a woman. This could not be proven before the U.S. courts.
“Money” claims to be the greatest fighter in boxing history, ahead of Muhammad Ali. The statistic that he never lost in his career backs him up, however, for Tyson it is not so. He shares no opinion and only says Mayweather “raves” about it.
