Grandson of boxing legend Muhammad Ali, Biaggio Ali Walsh, drops opponent before being choked out in MMA debut
Muhammad Ali’s grandson, Biaggio Ali Walsh, suffered a second-round defeat when he made his fight debut this past weekend.
Ali Walsh surprised many by announcing he would make his MMA debut on Fusion Fight League’s Rumble Under the Rims card last Friday, June 3, and follow his brother, Nico Ali Walsh into the world of combat sports.
Nico has been impressive during his short boxing career, accumulating a 5-0 record that includes four knockouts as a professional boxer in the middleweight division.
The 21-year-old has linked up with Tyson Fury’s trainer, SugarHill Steward, and seems to be destined for big things.
Biaggio is slightly older at 23 and, after finishing collegiate football, he decided to pursue a career in MMA.
Unfortunately, his career got off to a rocky start as he lost his amateur debut a few days ago.
Ali Walsh started well against fellow debutant Devin Rothwell in Montana, as he managed to shrug off a few takedown attempts and display his strength in the clinch.
The former model even managed to drop his opponent with a slick three-punch combination before things went south in round two as his opponent continued to pursue the takedown.
As the second frame played out it became clear that Ali Walsh was badly gassed and no longer able to keep Rothwell at bay.
This ultimately led to his opponent securing a takedown, locking up the rear-naked choke, and forcing Ali’s grandson to tap out.
Ahead of his debut, Ali Walsh expressed his desire to become a champion in MMA and it appears this early setback has not derailed his plan.
“Unfortunately last night we didn’t get the results we wanted. Going into the fight, I wanted to be patient whenever my opponent gets stunned,” he wrote on social media.
“Instead, I got caught up in the heat of the moment and he ended up capitalizing off it. I’m glad these things happened now as an amateur so I can learn and come back new and improved Thanks for all the support! It’s only up from here”
