Should Manny Pacquiao Fight Conor McGregor?

If Manny Pacquiao wants a big payday for his charity, an international boxing promoter said YouTuber and martial artist DK Yoo is not the answer.

Instead, the sole eight-division world champion should fight either a big name in boxing or MMA – someone who can be entertaining.

“He shouldn’t fight that Korean first of all. If he really wants to come back and fight, he should be fighting a real boxer or any popular fighter who has a name like McGregor that can entertain millions of fans around the world,” Filipino boxing promoter Aljoe Jaro said.

Yoo announced he wants taking on the future Hall of Famer in an exhibition match just a year shy of his retirement.

Pacquiao retired last September after losing by unanimous decision to Yordenis Ugas in August 2021.

Aside from being a bit up in age, 43, Pacquiao left the sport to pursue a presidential run in the Philippines, his home country where he had been serving as Senator for some time.

Jaro said if Pacquiao were to fight McGregor, it’s be a guaranteed hit that’d cash in for much more.

“Those type of fights are killing the sport of boxing. If they want some entertainment, they must choose a better fighter than that — like a real boxer who already retired with the same weight class. At the same time, nobody knows who’s that Korean,” Jaro added.

McGregor fought other fellow legend Floyd Mayweather in 2017, and lost by TKO. Still, that fight is one of the highest-grossing boxing matches in history.

In 2020, McGregor tweeted that he was going to fight Pacquiao in the Middle East, which never materialized.

Despite returning to the ring in December, Pacquiao made it clear that he just wants to do exhibition bouts to help generate money for those in need in the Philippines.
