Angry Juan Manuel Marquez prophesized Manny Pacquiao wipeout

Juan Manuel Marquez went into his fourth fight with Manny Pacquiao sad about what had happened between the two legends.

Losing two close bouts and drawing another led Marquez to agree to a fourth clash in December 2012.

Admitting his feelings before trading blows with the Filipino superstar, Marquez prophesized that he needed a knockout victory.

He was correct before wiping out Pacquiao in the sixth round. In the five rounds before an exceptional punch, the fight threatened to go Pacquiao’s way again.

Out of their three match-ups, Marquez was sure he won two of them without question.

“Dinamita” revealed his somber mood heading into their MGM Grand Pay Per View.

“I felt deception and sadness. I felt angry because when they [the officials] were reading the scorecards, the scorecards were for him. But I knew I won the fight,” said Marquez.

“[A victory in this fight is] Very, very important. I have this opportunity. The victory will be mine on December 8th. I will be able to retire with a victory over Manny Pacquiao.”

Although he didn’t walk away for good, having fought against Timothy Bradley and Mike Alvarado by 2013, Marquez knew he needed to knock Pacquiao out without question.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen. I feel very strong mentally. If I win the fight, I will continue,” he promised.

Waiting from the first bell, Marquez laid traps for Pacquiao that he eventually fell into. When that almighty blow landed, the fight was instantly all over, and the relief on his face was evident.

A pressure cooker released pre-fight anger that Marquez admitted to in a split second.

“The victory over Manny because of the last three fights. It was very frustrating to hear the scorecards after my performances.

“I was angry. There is a lot of pride. I’m very happy to get the fight.

“I am expecting the best Manny Pacquiao. I know the last three times I fought the best Manny Pacquiao. Of course, he wants to be on top again, so he wants to win the fight. But I am preparing myself very well. I will win the fight on December 8th.”

The blueprint was clearly defined and never hidden from his opponent.

“I am going to be aggressive in this fight. But I won’t go for the knockout right away. If I get the opportunity for the knockout, I will go for one.

“I will fight with intelligence. But I will also be a counter-puncher. And you need to fight intelligently to get a knockout. To win the fight clearly, I need to get a knockout.”

If his prophecy came true, which it did, Marquez had no problem being friends with Pacquiao.

“I think that the relationship with him is one of respect. It is a professional relationship, and we have had wars in the last three fights.

“So I know he respects me, and I respect him.”

Despite that obvious respect, Marquez didn’t feel the need to accept a fifth fight offer after being robbed in at least half of the saga.

Exhibition status may be the only chance Pacquiao has. But even then, Marquez is unlikely to accept without a considerable incentive.
