Anthony Joshua

Deontay Wilder has called for a fight with Anthony Joshua, and he believes that Africa should host the event.

The former WBC heavyweight champions returns to the ring for the first time since October 2021 following his brutal loss to Tyson Fury in their trilogy meeting. Robert Helenius is the opponent, but Wilder is already looking ahead.

Linked to a potential meeting with Joshua for the best part of six years, a fight between the pair in 2023 would still represent a huge moment for boxing despite both fighters enduring recent losses.

With both possessing obvious weaknesses to go alongside their massive strengths, a long-awaited showdown would almost guarantee fireworks. Wilder has grand plans for the potential meeting.

“I would love to do that fight in Africa,” said Wilder when speaking to BBC Sport.

“It’s still the number one fight in the world for everyone. Everywhere I go, people always talk about me versus Joshua.

“We both have roots from there. I think it would be an amazing place to have it, to go back home. To go back to the motherland. A continent full of our people. I can just see that being an amazing fight, win, lose or draw. I think we’ll get the respect and love from all the people over there.”
