Confirmed negotiations for Manny Pacquiao to fight against Connor Benn

MP Promotions president Sean Gibbons confirmed a potential fight in Abu Dhabi for June 3

It all points at Manny Pacquiao potentially returning for another boxing match at the highest level in the Welterweight division. Even though he announced his retirement at 42 years old, Manny Pacquiao just took a break in order to run for president of the Phillipines. Now that there is more time in his schedule, Pacquiao is reportedly negotiating a new deal with MP Promotions in order to fight Conor Benn. The U.K. star is reportedly also considering fights with Kell Brook and Chris Eubank Jr., if Pacquiao doesn’t come through. But the main target is to fight the Phillipines’ legend.

Talking to ESPN, MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons said the following: “He retired for a minute to run for President of the Philippines, where he took a respectful third place. And after that he felt that his retirement was due to running for president, and now that [he wasn’t elected], he wants to fight again and feels like he can do it at the highest level. Manny is an all-time great and he feels like he still has a lot of fight left in him and he still wants to compete at the highest level. And this fight [vs. Benn] was presented to him by [promoter] Eddie Hearn, and he agreed. Ball is in Eddie Hearn’s court. Pacquiao ready to go.”

Could Manny Pacquiao fight Floyd Mayweather?

The reason Manny Pacquiao fighting Floyd Mayweather is unlikely is because the 8-division champ is keen on fighting at the highest level. Whereas Floyd Mayweather is only thinking about making money through exhibition matches. Nothing is impossible but Manny Pacquian wants to keep competing despite his age. The last time Pacquiao fought, he lost against Yordenis Ugas via unanimous decision. That was the time he said he would retire but the ring kept calling him. If Mayweather wants to entertain this idea, both legends should sit down and talk.
