Filipino boxer Kenneth Egano passed away on Wednesday after fainting on Saturday at the end of his fight against Jason Facularin.
After securing an eight-round decision win over Facularin, Egano collapsed in his corner.
The bout was part of a Blow by Blow fight card promoted by boxing legend Manny Pacquiao and he was rushed to the hospital, where doctors detected a brain haemorrhage.
Egano had to undergo emergency surgery and was induced into a coma. The death of the 22-year-old Filipino was then confirmed on Wednesday.
“I didn’t expect that this will happen when we did our best,” Facularin wrote.
“Why did it happen to us? Sorry that it happened. I hope you’re in a good place.”
After Egano was taken to the hospital, Pacquiao promised to pay for his medical bills.
