The Big Bang Theory: 10 Funniest Howard Quotes About Love
Howard Wolowitz went through many stages of his romantic life on The Big Bang Theory, from singleton to devoted husband. Here are his takes on love!

We all know that The Big Bang Theory’s Howard Wolowitz is a special man. Before falling in love and marrying Bernadette, he was a self-proclaimed “horny engineer.” He couldn’t always get the woman he was after but that didn’t stop him from trying. He was so relentless in his efforts for love with an attractive woman that it got him a punch in the face from Penny!
Thankfully, over the course of 12 seasons, we’ve seen Howard grow into a family man; someone who’s entirely dedicated to his wife and children. But that doesn’t mean he’s lost his sensual sense of humor. Howard has said some pretty outlandish and honest things about love and relationships, so let’s take a look at 10 of those moments.
‘I’M YOUR IDIOT FOREVERRRRRRR’
The gang on The Big Bang Theory Skype their significant others often when at work. It’s a sweet way to reconnect throughout the workday. In this instance, Bernie was at work when Howard Skyped her canceling their date plans for Saturday night to play D&D with his friends.
She called him an idiot for his excuse and Howard tried turning the insult into a romantic moment by claiming he was her “idiot” forever. This funny moment resonated with a ton of viewers and is a beloved meme.
‘UNTIL I MET YOU, I COULDN’T IMAGINE SPENDING MY LIFE WITH JUST ONE PERSON. AND NOW I CAN’T IMAGINE SPENDING ONE DAY OF IT WITHOUT YOU’
Howard and Bernadette were planning a lavish wedding but when Howard’s space mission got called up, they decided to do a smaller wedding ceremony instead. The whole gang got ordained so they could marry the couple before Howard went off to space.
As one can imagine, Howard’s vows to Bernie were incredibly sincere. He loved her and was terrified to blast off into space, so fans knew they were about to see a romantic side to Howard. Bernie’s vows were “short and sweet” just like her husband but Howard’s vows were more sentimental and meaningful.
‘IF I DIDN’T HAVE YOU, LIFE WOULD BE BLUE, I’D BE DR. WHO WITHOUT THE TARDIS’
In “The Romance Resonance,” we saw Howard and Bernadette celebrating their first anniversary together. Unfortunately, Bernadette became quarantined due to a virus gone rogue at work. Instead of flushing their plans down the drain, Howard wrote a beautiful song—that’s both sweet and quirky—about his love for Bernadette.
He brought his keyboard to the hospital and had Sheldon, Raj, Leonard, Amy, and Penny sing backup. The song brought Bernadette to tears and proved that Howard could be a good guy when he wanted to be.
‘I DREAM TO ONCE AGAIN KISS YOUR LIPS, SWEET BERNADETTE! SINCERELY YOURS, HOWARD WOLOWITZ’
Howard really is a jack of all trades. He’s an engineer, he can sing, he can play instruments, he’s good at magic… He has many hobbies and he seems to be good at them all (except for sports and picking up women).
Back when Howard and Bernadette were just dating, the pair got into an argument, so Howard did the one thing he knew would win her back: write a song. His song was about how much he cared for her and how dumb of a person he could be sometimes. Penny (who was there at the time) was mortified by his performance but Bernadette thought it was the most romantic thing she’s ever seen.
‘WE’RE GOING TO BE PARENTS! WE’RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO BOARD PLANES FIRST!’
In “The Positive Negative Reaction,” Bernadette tells Howard they’re pregnant. Both of them are freaked out but also super excited about the news. With a tear in his eye, Howard is proud of how far his relationship with Bernadette has come.
Just thinking about his little baby and wife gets him excited about boarding planes first and being able to see what’s inside the family bathrooms. That’s a special kind of love right there.
‘…TAKE THAT ANY GUY THAT’S BOUGHT YOU ANYTHING’
In “The Countdown Reflection,” we see Howard gearing up to head to Outer Space. But before he goes (and before they get married), Howard gifts Bernadette a beautiful star-pendent necklace. He told her he’s going to bring it to space so she can actually have a star from space.
He then throws a little jab at any man that’s gifted something to Bernadette because this gift was the gift of all gifts. In Howard’s sarcastic, comedic tone, these were words of a romantic.
‘LOVE IS NOT A SPRINT, IT’S A MARATHON, A RELENTLESS PURSUIT THAT ONLY ENDS WHEN SHE FALLS INTO YOUR ARMS… OR HITS YOU WITH THE PEPPER SPRAY’
In the first season, we see the worst of Howard Wolowitz. He’s lonely and insecure but he’ll try anything if it gets a woman to sleep with him. Sadly, Howard doesn’t realize that his attempts at dating can be seen as aggressive and predatory; something Penny has tried explaining to him multiple times.
We all knew Howard would be a good boyfriend when the time came but until then, you better believe he was used to being pepper-sprayed. Even here, seeing that Howard knew love was a marathon is a romantic and mature outlook that was surprising for the small engineer.
‘IF IT’S CREEPY TO USE THE INTERNET, MILITARY SATELLITES, AND ROBOT AIRCRAFTS TO FIND A HOUSE FULL OF GORGEOUS YOUNG MODELS SO I CAN DROP IN ON THEM UNEXPECTED, THEN FINE. I’M CREEPY’
Again, the first couple of seasons were not kind to Howard. In this episode, he learned about the reality TV show, America’s Next Top Model. Howard and Raj realized there was a house in Los Angelas filled with potential models not far away.
This led to him messing around with satellite equipment to stalk the contestants of the show. By the end of the episode, we see him and Raj impersonating cable workers at the models’ home. And while it’s beyond creepy, that’s Howard’s take on love for you.
‘YOU KNOW, IT’S NOT UNHEARD OF FOR A ONE-NIGHT STAND TO TURN INTO A RELATIONSHIP’
When you think about where Howard and Bernadette started off, it’s amazing that they’re married with two kids by the 12th season. They broke up, he cheated on her with a virtual troll, and they survived long distance when he was in space. When they first started seeing each other, Howard was iffy about the relationship and seemed to only want to sleep with her.
Bernadette, of course, would only sleep with him if they were in a committed relationship, which is where Howard comes in with this line about one-night stands. It was almost like he wanted to test-ride a toy before actually purchasing it. Bernadette sensed this and it showed where Howard’s mind was at.
‘I JUST ALWAYS THOUGHT THAT WHEN I SETTLED DOWN INTO A RELATIONSHIP IT WOULD BE WITH SOMEONE, YOU KNOW, DIFFERENT… MORE LIKE MEGAN FOX FROM TRANSFORMERS’
Oh, Howard. While he’s handsome and charming in his own way, his confidence can be cluttered at times. Back when he wasn’t sure if he should date Bernadette, he literally thought he’d end up with someone hotter; someone like Megan Fox or Angelina Jolie (he does realize that people that hot tend to date even hotter people, right?).
Thankfully, his little daydream made him realize that Bernadette didn’t need to look like a multi-millionaire actress for him to love her.
