The legendary Muhammad Ali is coming to the WWE Champions game this week in honor of his famous appearance at the first WrestleMania.

HIGHLIGHTS

  •  Muhammad Ali, the legendary boxer, is joining the WWE Champions mobile game as a playable character.
  •  Ali has had a significant impact on both boxing and pro wrestling, including serving as the special guest outside referee at the original WrestleMania event in 1985.
  •  Players can unlock Ali by completing the “Sting Like A Bee” Solo Contests and earn special moves and cosmetic items inspired by his boxing career.

The legendary Muhammad Ali is coming to WWE Champions for a limited time. While boxing and pro wrestling are largely different sports, they have interacted multiple times in the past thanks to boxers making guest appearances in WWE and challenging superstars to a few rounds in the ring. One of the most famous examples of this came at the original WrestleMania event back in 1985, where Muhammad Ali served as the special guest outside referee for the main event tag team match-up between the duo of Hulk Hogan and Mr. T and the team of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper and “Mr. Wonderful” Paul Orndorff.

Muhammad Ali’s impact on the world of boxing speaks for itself, as the late Olympic gold medalist and former world heavyweight champion is largely considered to be one of the greatest fighters of all time. It should come as no surprise that he has been featured in several video games dating back to the days of the Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis, including his playable appearances in EA’s Fight Night series throughout the early 2000s. One of his more surprising gaming roles came in the Japanese-exclusive Virtual Pro Wrestling 64, where he was an unlockable character skin for Antonio Inoki.

26 years later, Muhammad Ali is making another appearance in a wrestling video game, this time for the WWE Champions mobile title. Muhammad Ali will be available to unlock as a playable character by completing the “Sting Like A Bee” Solo Contests from July 31 to August 4. Ali comes will a host of special moves modeled after his illustrious boxing career, and players will also be able to earn the “Sting Like a Bee” Medallion currency through Showdown Tournament and Solo Contests to redeem for further rewards from WWE Champions’ new Prize Wall – such as an assortment of Muhammad Ali-themed cosmetic items.

Launched on Android and iOS in 2017, WWE Champions is a free-to-play puzzle RPG in which players unleash attacks on their opponents by matching falling gems in a similar fashion to titles like Bejeweled. The game’s roster of playable characters includes a mix of currently active and legendary WWE Superstars, including WWE 2K23 cover star and Showcase Mode staple John Cena.

Another legend is now joining WWE Champions in the form of Muhammad Ali, a competitor that has shaped both boxing and pro wrestling thanks to his iconic career in the former and his special guest appearance at the inaugural WrestleMania for the latter. Fans who wish to float like a butterfly and sting like a bee in WWE Champions won’t have long to unlock this pioneer of the squared circle though, as Ali is only available this week.

WWE Champions is available now for iOS and Android mobile devices.
